Overview
Staged entirely upon the lake itself (a stage has been built 3 centimeters below the surface), Impression West Lake is a spectacle of light, music, dance and theatrics. The stories are based on Hangzhou legends. Using the lake and its surroundings as the backdrop, hundreds of actors and lights create a sensational performance.
It is a unique outdoor performance in natural settings. Staged on the West Lake, the performance appears vivid and incredibly beautiful. Mixed with the myths and legends of the West Lake, the show leads you to a sweet thousand-year dream. The special concealable auditorium ensures each seat a wonderful place to enjoy the dazzling show. The state-of-the-art sound system is surely to offer a surprising musical enjoyment. The director of this show is Mr Zhang Yimou, who was in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. In 2016, the dream-like and fantastic Impression West Lake Show, as the golden name card of the city of Hangzhou, gave the world a feast for eyes during the G20 summit.
From May 2017, the new version of Impression West Lake show - Enduring Memories of Hangzhou, will open to the public again and welcome audiences from both home and abroad.
The new show Enduring Memories of Hangzhou, is upgraded by the team led by famous director Zhang Yimou based on the former Impression West Lake Show. The name of the show is quoted from a very famous poem written by Bai Juyi ( 772 - 846 ), the great poet, litterateur and politician in Chinese Tang Dynasty ( 618 - 907 ). He used to be the mayor of Hangzhou, and was respected and loved by the local people since he did a lot of work to make them live better.
The show is created in an East-Meet-West way. Dancers perform in the beautifully lit background in the shallow water, and the performance is all on a floating platform, so that it seems like dancers are dancing on the surface of the lake. In such a setting, together with fantastic music background and awesome performance, the show is absolutely a must-see in Hangzhou.
Act 1 : Spring River in the Flower Moon Night
Spring River in the Flower Moon Night is one of the Ten Chinese Traditional Musical Masterpieces. Originated from a well-known poem of Tang Dynasty, it has evolved into a staple in music and dance.
Act 2: Dance of Picking Tea Leaves
This Chinese folk music is describing the tea picking girls happily working in the tea plantation. Hangzhou is famous for the West Lake green tea. In spring time, when the tea leaf-bud just comes about. The tea picking girls is dancing at the background of the green tea plantation.
Act 3: A Tale of the Chinese Romeo and Juliet
This is a Chinese legend of a tragic love story of a pair of lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. They loved each other but not forbidden to marry each other by their family, after they died, their spirits finally becomes beautiful butterflies and lived together forever.
Act 4: High Mountains and Flowing Waters
The classical Chinese music , High Mountains and Flowing Waters is much more about natural scenery. It was a metaphor for ancient Chinese literati to denote friendship. It is now a hint of the friendship between Hangzhou and the world.
Act 5: Ballet Swan Lake
This act moves the famous Russian Ballet Swan Lake to the West Lake. It was a greeting to the world famous Ballet Dance.
Act 6: My country and I
This act express our love to our hometown and to our country. Welcome to Hangzhou. Welcome to China.
Act 7: Moon Light
The night of the West Lake will not be so mysterious and charming without the moon light mirroring in the lake.
Act 8: The Unforgettable Jasmine Flower
This Chinese folk song may be the most popular Chinese folk song all over the world. The new performance of this famous folk song will leave you an unforgettable impression.
Act 9: Ode to Joy

1. How to get to the show venue?
Show Venue: 82 Beishan Road, opposite to Yuefei Temple, near Shangri-la Hotel.
Public Bus: K7, K27, K81, K850, Y1, Y3 are all stopping by the show.
Taxi: Tell the driver to take you to "Yuefei Temple" or "Shangeri-la Hotel". The show venue is at the opposite of the temple and hotel.
2. Is there any last minute booking risk?
Please book the show in advance and leave enough time for us to reserce tickets for you. Usually booking before 4pm will be safe if you are going to book today's tickets.
